In terms of my own research re seeing, some compelling things to note about scanning tunneling microscopesoscpes:
- The optical mechanism is more like and feeling than seeing (See Barad, 2007: 52)
- The mechanics are quantum (still trying to figure out what that really means)
- It is possible, with some materials, to pick and move an atom one at a time
