Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s less than a month before I head off to Utrecht to join a summer school with philosopher Rosi Braidotti. To help raise funds to pay for the course and travel, I have created a 42-page eBook which you can download for £10 or choose the £20 option and receive a 5×7 print included (at check out or get in touch once you’ve had a chance to look at the book). The book has ended up being a celebration of ten years of study as well as a fundraising mechanism. It describes how Braidotti’s commitment to education, feminism and affirmative ethics struck a chord with me, one of the reasons I was so keen to apply. Perhaps even more than that, I was delighted to find someone who championed an acceptance of complexity in a world that favours simple binary answers.

Here is a short preview of the introduction:

When I began studying with The Open College of the Arts (OCA), almost exactly ten years ago, I had little idea what it would bring. I did, however, know that I had not been sated by the previous ‘technical’ courses I’d completed; the first of which was an evening photography class following my father’s death in 2010, and then an online course in 2013 which I signed up for the moment my marriage collapsed. Although I was pleased to finally learn how to tell my f-stops from my shutter speeds, I sensed there must be something more to photography. I had no idea what, but I felt broken following a divorce and needed something to focus on. I cannot overstate how beneficial signing up for that degree was.  Studying, along with support from friends and family, helped me to come to terms with loss and disappointment, as I focused on completing assignments and also building a photography business.

You can purchase the book from my website where you will also find a range of prints and publications made in the last few years.
