In September I presented a selection of images to both the Thames Valley group and the regular hangout cohort I was part of during UVC.

I requested help with the following decisions –
- Should I submit the work for A2?
- I had been thinking about combining outdoor images with indoor images, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt I ought to stick to one of the other. After voicing my concerns I felt I was trying to do too much and that the building Oxford House had to be the key element. I talked about how John’s images were all about Keble House which linked to Oxford House and Keith’s were all about Victorian architecture which linked to Oxford House – both strong, clear aims whereas my aims felt all over the place.
Being all over the place, is perhaps a result of muddy thinking but also a legacy from actor’s training where you ideally leap in and simply play and see where you end up, guided by a decent director, some good writing and often a group of other actors – all of which takes you hopefully in the right direction.
All over the place also resulted in a fairly disparate set of images which I needed to somehow bring into a cohesive set. It was at this point that I started to consider presenting the work three acts in order to link three quite separate visual styles, although all very much mine, together. Sometimes I feel like a chatty toddler who is just learning to speak – anyone who has spent time such a creature will know they can talk AT you ad infinitum without much pause and I think my photography is a bit like that. Containing such a diatribe is the challenge for me.
After the talks I had with the TV and hangout groups I collated the following draft edit:

I shared this with a few people and John and I discussed the middle section with the wooden paneling. After a short talk, I took John’s advice and switched the key image in that section with the one of Honor sitting on the ground. Looking back I am very pleased with this choice. It makes much more sense. John said she looked most relaxed and at ease (or perhaps grown up) in that image which contrasted with the other three in the section.
A fellow TV member said she thought I would be fine to submit this work for the assignment. I then emailed my tutor and asked her opinion. I was told provided I could match it to the aims of the assignment then yes, it would be a good idea to do so. I decided then I would.
