For the first time in twenty years, I travelled to Ferentillo without any offspring. Ten years ago, I was photographing the kids and my mum to create the final project of the first photography module for a BA which I had no intention of completing. Now I’m wondering whether I should pursue a PhD. How things change.
I also left my camera behind for the first time in fifteen years. Instead, I read Deleuze’s book on Spinoza, more essays from Vicky Kirby’s What if Cultural was Nature all Along and a collection of essays/chapters recommended by a Kingston uni based research group which explored ‘link[s] between natural language, quantum mechanics, and linear logic’. Given I’ve spent some time trying to get to grips with the notion of non-linear temporality, I was a bit thrown by these essays. Frustratingly, I was unable to listen to the associated talk given by Alexander Wilson but I will definitely get hold of John Maynard Smith and Eörs Szathmáry’s The Origin of Life – exactly the kind of thing that I love reading. I will have to look again at the linear logic essays – they were challenging to say the least!
I may write something on my return… the river Frogs were croaking some kind of story at me most nights. Perhaps “On the Edge of the village: Part II”.
